Quoted in The Age – Sibling Squabbles
I was recently interviewed by The Age for this interesting article that explored some of the unfortunate issues that can arise as a result of assuming control of a elderly parents financial affairs. The article focused on sibling rivalry and fighting that sometimes occur when one child is made Power of Attorney for the parent. It is a stressful time for all involved when a parent requires a Power of Attorney and or moves out of the family home and these family squabbles only make the situation worse. There are usually complex and sizeable financial and lifestyle decisions that need to be made so a thorough understanding of tax, Centrelink entitlements and aged care rules is important to make optimal decisions.
